The Baxter Building

The Baxter Library Building, built in 1888, served as Portland’s Public Library until 1978. Its monumental Richardsonian Romanesque, or Romanesque Revival façade was designed by locally prominent architect Francis H. Fassett, and a subsequent renovation in 1928 was designed by John Calvin Stevens. The current renovation, designed in collaboration with Scott Simons Archtects of Portland who worked on the interior tenant fit-up, will modernize the building to house the VIA Group, an advertising and marketing company. Archetype was hired by the building owners to shepherd the project through the historic and city approvals process, and to administer construction.
