53 Danforth is a multi-family residential project designed for Maine Workforce Housing, of Portland. This project adapts its dense programmatic requirements onto a very small site at the Western edge of Portland’s Old Port District. Providing easy access to work, recreation and entertainment possibilities within the city, this project epitomizes the owner’s desire for making a contribution to the city through affordable, quality housing. For Archetype, the building was an opportunity to investigate an architectural language which is fitting for its post-industrial urban environment using quality materials and substantial massing of the building elements.
